In this two-part workshop, you will learn how to design, carve and print a one-color linoleum block.  You will learn what tools to use, how to plan your image from sketches, transfer your final design, carve with multiple blades, and then handprint a simple edition of your final block.  You will leave with the skills to print more designs at home or in your studio.

In this 6 hour workshop we will explore printing watercolors from various substrates such as frosted vellum or coated mat board. The instructor will demonstrate the proper way to get the most out of each application of paint, as well as discuss various papers to use. After lunch, we will use vellum to cut stencils and compose them on the backing sheets to print multiple layered images. Using watercolors offers myriad ways to apply the paint including drawing with the tube, washes, and beautiful evaporated puddles.

In this two-night collograph intensive, we will first learn the basics of how to make a plate and what materials to use, including different acrylic adhesives and coatings. The instructor will provide an assortment of flat collograph collage materials, but you are welcome to bring other items, such as lace, fabrics, leaves, textured papers etc. We will work with 9 x 12 mat board or Plexiglas plates as the substrate. On the second night, after the plates have dried and cured, we will look a various printing methods, including relief-rolling and traditional intaglio wiping, including mixing more than one color on the plate surface.

Learn the full screenprinting process on T-Shirts and have the option to use Open Studio at Ink Lounge. This one day workshop covers the basics of screenprinting on T-Shirts where upon completion you'll have the option to schedule open studio to print your own projects. We'll cover art, film prep, screens, mesh, emulsion, squeegees, inks, exposure, registration - pretty much everything you need to know to get up and printing. The morning session starts with some of the basics and demonstrations. Then we'll continue by preparing your art, exposing screens during lunch and spend the afternoon printing.

Students will be painting an image with opaque etching ink on a smooth Plexiglas plate and transfer the image onto an Arches Black cover stock paper on a printing press. The monotype pulled off the plate almost always has an element of surprise since the art created on the plate is flattened, squeezed and moved around the paper is pressed into the ink. The final result on paper may look quite different than the image on the plate.

If you love to paint, draw, collage, or make art on paper then this class is for you! Explore the fascinating world of artistic printing in the Colorful Print Workshop and use many techniques to create a portfolio of stunning fine art prints. Students will explore monotype printing (paintings pressed into paper), chin collé (combining cut and glued paper into your drawn or painted prints) & block printing. As they progress, students will have the opportunity to choose a combination of their favorite techniques and create multiple printed masterpieces. At the end of the workshop, students will be encouraged to participate in a print exchange and trade any extra prints.

Artist Peer Critiques (APC) is an open group of artists, creators, and anyone seeking feedback on their ideas. 

The March gathering will focus on print techniques and ideas, and will be hosted in a gallery space that has a community printmaking show on display. Bringing print-based work or questions is encouraged, but all media are welcome. 

(APC) meetings are casual gatherings that focus on current projects, any questions that each person is seeking multiple insights to, or whatever will help make your project stronger. Most people share updates or progress every gathering, but many come just to chat or give feedback.  Bringing snacks or drinks are always encouraged. We do pot-luck style refreshments for each monthly Third Thursday gathering.

Kids will spend about 30 minutes drawing (or they can bring a B&W drawing) – then while they are having a snack break we’ll expose the screens to get ready for printing. They can print up to 6 T-shirts, hoodies, pillowcases, skirts, tote bags, etc.

Listen to Craig Zammiello, juror of Art Gym's 3rd annual imPressed exhibit, give a presentation about his history and adventures in collaborative printmaking.

Craig Zammiello is a Master Printer with over 40 years of experience in all areas of printmaking.  He is the author of a studio manual on photogravure, and the book Conversations from the Print Studio published by Yale University Press.

Craig Zammiello worked 25 years at Universal Limited Art Editions, where he collaborated with numerous artists, notably Jasper Johns, Elizabeth Murray, Robert Rauschenberg, James Rosenquist, Kiki Smith and Terry Winters.  Currently, he is a Master Printer at Two Palms, working with Matthew Barney, Mel Bochner, Peter Doig, Ellen Gallagher, Chris Ofili, Elizabeth Peyton, Dana Shutz and Chuck Close.

He received his M.F.A. from SUNY Stony Brook in 1995. He has taught numerous workshops and classes at New York University, Yale University, The Robert Blackburn Printmaking Studio, the Royal Academy of Antwerp and the Flemish Center for the Graphic Arts in Belgium. He is currently Adjunct Faculty within the School of the Arts at Columbia University. Zammiello has exhibited his work in the US and abroad.  His prints can be found in the collections of the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Belgium, Yale University Art Gallery, and the Hoesch Museum in Düren, Germany.

During this class, Jennifer will go over basics of the emulsion screenprint process; screen prep, exposing screens, and image registration. We will focus on blending two or more colors as we print, creating a beautiful “split fountain”. Bring a file or choose from one of our art books and you will then print your own design. Totes and tea towels are included where you mix and print up to 5 items.
